According to Vastu Shastra, the ideal location for the Garage is North-west side, and as a second option, South-east can be considered. Often, northeast and south-west sides are avoided for car porches which leave the above two suitable for a garage.

According to Vastu, the ideal location for car parking or shed is in the South-west, South and West facing direction. Parking in North-east corner of the house should be avoided. However, if by any reason you have no other option than to build car parking in North-east corner then make sure the corner has a slump. Also make sure that south and west walls are strong and solid.

Color of the Garage: The ideal colors according to Vastu for the garage are white, yellow, blue and any other light color. Light colors reflect positivity and light and help a person to see clearly. Dark colors like black, red and grey must be avoided as they make space look dark and full of shadows.

The size of the Garage: The size of the garage should be such that a minimum of 2 to 3 feet of walking space after parking the car. The walking space not only helps in walking but also helps in spreading light in the area and makes it easier to see through the dark.

Entrance Door: The ideal side for the entrance of the garage is the north or east direction. The height of the garage gate must not be higher than the main gate as it looks ugly and the gate should open freely and swiftly without any hindrance. Pathway for the Cars: The pathway for the car entry must be clean, clear and smooth. Try to keep the pathway well-maintained, without any concrete and easy to access which make the parking easy and less time consuming. Also, keep a check on the items stored in the garage; there must not be any inflammable or waste material. Any unnecessary item can cause damage to the vehicles and destroy the area completely.

Porch: Sometimes due to less space, it becomes impossible to construct a garage. In case, the garage cannot be constructed; the best option is to construct a porch in the North or East or Northeast direction. Constructing pillars around the porch away from the building with cantilever roof would be the perfect scenario.

Syntax According to Vastu

Vastu for Syntax (Water Tank) Placement

Ideally, the overhead tank should be in the west or south west direction. For the overhead tank which is placed in the southwest direction, it should be at least two feet over the uppermost slab. Due to water, the side becomes heavy which acts advantageous.

Water tanks are important in every house and most houses install tanks random in direction wherever it is suitable. Underwater Tank: Underwater tank should be dug in North-east direction while before digging a sump draw an axis marking from North-east to South-west while both the sides right or left are apt for underwater tank. Avoid any water source/tank towards North-west or South-east.

Overhead Tank: Overhead tank should be installed in South-west direction only because South is inauspicious corner of house where heavy things can be placed to equate the energies. The location or placement of the overhead tank is one of the main factors one should look into. Ideally, the overhead tank should be in the west or south west direction.

Though northeast corner belongs to the element - water, it is not advisable to have a big overhead tank in the area. This is because the side should not be heavy under any condition. However, a small tank can be placed.

Make sure you have different tanks for different purpose. While drinking and cooking water can be from one tank, water for toilets and bathrooms can come from another one.

However, if the tank is of a small size, less height and situated at a distance of at least two feet from the north-west corner, it can be permissible. However, the water in the tank does not get used properly and finishes earlier than expected.

Sofa According to Vastu

Direction of the Kitchen: Kitchen should always be on south-east side of the house. Vastu believes that fire governs this direction and hence this choice. If the south-east corner is not available, then the next best direction is the north-west corner of the house. But, a north-west kitchen is believed to increase the household expenses.

Placement of the Stove: Being the main source of fire, placement of the stove is very important in Vastu Shastra. South-east is the preferred direction with the person who is cooking facing the east. Position of the Door: Vastu is against the placement of the kitchen door in any of the corners of the wall. North, east and west are suitable for the main door.

Storage Solutions: Grains, pulses, utensils and crockery should always be stored in the south or west side of the kitchen. North and east sides of the kitchen wall are not suitable for any storage.

Electrical Appliances: Today’s kitchen has a lot of electrical appliances to help with the work. These appliances like a microwave, mixer grinder, toaster etc. should be placed towards the south or south-east direction of the kitchen. North-east side should be strictly avoided for the placement of these electrical appliances.

Dining Table: These days, especially in smaller apartments, allot a position for the dining table in the kitchen itself. The north-west or west side of the kitchen is ideal for a dining table in these cases.

Balcony According to Vastu

According to vastu, areas like balconies, verandahs and roof play a major role in balancing the overall energy of the house. The best direction to build a balcony or a verandah is the northern and eastern directions of the house. As per vastu the heavy furniture and seating should be placed only in west, south or South-West part of the Balcony.

If we are using a swing in the balcony, it should be placed in the East-West axis only.

It is recommended that we keep only pots of small flower or plants in the Balcony.

As per vastu the height of the Balcony roof, if any, should be less than the roof of the main building.

Stair According to Vastu

A staircase must always be built in the western or southern part of the house. It should not be constructed in the north-east corner, as it is believed that a staircase here can lead to financial losses. In fact, a staircase in any corner except the western or southern corner is believed to lead to losses. A staircase connects two spaces i.e. internal and external as well as one level to another level. A staircase is one of the most important features in any structure.

Front door facing the staircase is the most common problem as per Vastu. Consider steps going down towards the North, North East and East as auspicious according to the Vastu.

An external staircase can be built in the southeast direction facing east, southwest direction facing west, northwest direction facing north, and southwest direction facing south.

Always begin your stairs from north to south or east to west. A turn can also be taken to other sides, in case there is a lack of space.

Stairs must always have an odd number and the number must never end with a zero.

Never make circular staircases as they have the ability to cause bad health. Also, a staircase encircling the building can lead to severe calamites.

Bathroom According to Vastu

According to bathroom Vastu, bathroom should be located in North or North-West portion of the house. If bathroom is located in wrong direction, it can cause health and financial problems. Bathroom should not be in South, South-East and South-West direction. South sided bathroom can cause adverse effects on the health of female members. Combined bathroom and toilet should be in north-west direction. It should not be adjacent to Pooja Room, kitchen and under the stairs.

Geyser and other electrical appliances like heater and switchboard should be installed in south-east corner of bathroom. Taps and showers are fixed in north direction. Placing bath tubs in east, west or north-east direction is good. Wash basin and shower can be either in north-east, north or east direction. The North is a good direction for vanity mirror. A water closet should be placed near a window or an outer wall.

The door of bathroom should be in North or East direction. It should not be placed in south-west direction. In a bathroom there should be a small and airy window either in East, West or North direction. If the window is in south direction, it would have adverse effects on health.

The color of bathroom tiles can be white, sky blue and light blue. It helps in giving a fresh look to bathroom. Avoid dark colors like black or red. The slope of floor in bathroom should be towards East or North direction.

As per Vastu for bathroom, one must always bathe in the north or east side.

Some Important Points for Bedroom

The master bedroom should always be located in the Southwest part of the house as Southwest represents the element Earth which implies the heaviness, which makes it as the ideal place for the master of the house.

A great deal of attention should be paid to bedrooms in a house. One should sleep with head towards South, East or West and never in north.

There should not be any beam crossing over the bed. If it exists, proper rectification should be done immediately otherwise the health will be affected.

Direction of Main Door

The main door should always be in the north, north-east, east, or west, as these directions are considered auspicious.

North: If you want to locate the entrance door in North wall of a home, then make sure the door is in North-East section of North wall.

The reason for this is to allow morning sun (UV Rays for purification), fresh light and air to enter the home from East. Also keep the door towards center of wall (not exactly at center) and locate a window near North-East corner.

South: If you want to locate entrance of a home in South wall, then locating the door towards South-East is auspicious; avoid having the door at center or South-West portion of wall. For all houses having main door in South direction, it’s must to have another door in North direction also.

East: To locate main entrance door in East wall, vastu suggests keeping it in North-East part.

West: North-West half of West wall is more suitable for main entrance as per vastu.

Vastu for Plot’s Shapes

Rectangular Plot: Rectangular plot is auspicious in the ratio of 1:2 and if the length is facing North and breadth is facing West then the inmates reap rich benefits from the plot in terms of health, wealth and prosperity.

Square Plot: Square plot having with equal length and width is always ideal plot for any type of construction. This type of plot bestows inmate’s all-round success and harmony.

Gau-Mukhi Plot: Gau-mukhi plot is one which is narrow from the front area and broad at the back. This type of plot is very auspicious for residential purpose and bestows good health, wealth and prosperity.

Sher-Mukhi Plot: Sher-mukhi plot contrary to gau-mukhi is just opposite broad from front and narrow at the back. This type of plot is not considered good option for residences but can be used for commercial construction.

Oval/Circular/Elliptical Plot: Oval/circular/elliptical plot are irregular shapes in plots which are not considered good for any purpose and people living on such type of plots never flourish.

Plots Having Four or More Sides: Such as hexagon, pentagon and octagon must be avoided for anyway as they tend to bring bad luck for inmates.

Plots having cut corner from either side are not considered good as they are not appropriate for construction both according to Vastu and science. Plots having a cut off from North-east corner are inauspicious to buy, thus avoid it. East (Purva): This direction is governed by lord Indra and he is known to be the king of Gods.  It is considered most auspicious & holy of all directions. While sleeping your legs should not face east.

West (Paschim): This direction is directed by Lord Varun, the lord of rains. He bestows his blessings in the form of natural water-rain, brings prosperity and pleasures of life. This direction is not considered auspicious. You may plant long tree in the west.

North (Uttar): This direction is governed by Kuber, the god of wealth. A house entrance facing north brings prosperity.

South (Dakshin): This direction is of Yama, the god of death. He is manifestation of dharma, and eradicates evil forces and bestows good things. It is a source of wealth, crops and pleasure. Houses with entrance doors in the south bring ill-luck to the occupants. While sleeping your legs should never face south.

North-East (Ishanya): This place is a supervised by lord Ishanya, and is a source of wealth, health and success. He brings us wisdom, knowledge and relieves us from all miseries and mishaps. A pooja (worship) room should be kept in the north-eastern direction. House entrance placed in this direction brings prosperity, knowledge peace & progress.

South-East (Agneya): This direction is governed by lord of fire- Agni. He gives us good personality and all good things of life. Fire is a source of health as it is related to fire, cooking and food. The kitchen of the house should be situated in this direction. For ensuring their durability, electronic gadgets & appliances should be kept in this direction.

South-West (Nairutya): This direction is directed by Niruti, the god who protects us from evil foes. It is a source of character, demeanor, case of longevity and death. Therefore, it is banned for all auspicious functions. This direction should be filled with heavy unmovable.

North-West (Vayavya): This place is directed by lord Vayu and he brings on us good health, strength and long life. It is a source of change in course of business, friendship and enmity. Skywards (Urdhwa/ Akash): Further sub divided into seven parts depending upon the height.
