Vastu for Drawing / Living Room

A Drawing room is relatively a new term in the home industry. This room is commonly addressed as the sitting room, and is generally used by the house owner and his family members for relaxation, entertainment and recreation. The Drawing room is a versatile room and is also used for other activities such as watching television, reading books, gossiping with family members, spending time with children, drinking, eating and many more casual activities. The Drawing room is an important component of the house, which makes the house favorable or unfavorable for residence. It is that part of the house where the members spend a lot of time and which is also used to entertain guests.

Location of Drawing Room

The Drawing room should face east, north or north-east. Alternatively, a north-west-facing Drawing room is also favourable. Heavy furniture should be kept in the west or south-west direction of the living room

North-west location: The north-west quadrant, belonging to the element of air, is an ideal location for the Drawing room, that is, if you want to avoid late night parties, get-togethers, etc. This quadrant indicates movement and makes guests restless, encouraging them to leave.

North-east location: This makes the Drawing room a storehouse of positive energy and bestows the users with serenity and mental peace.

Northern location: This quadrant of wealth and health adds a congenial ambience to the room and infuses it with positive vibrations.

South-west location: This attracts guests like flies to sugar! Since this corner makes one feel quite at home, the guests may become pests. However, this quadrant is favourable for the occupants.

Vastu Tips for Drawing Room

Use light curtains on the windows and doors in the north-east wall and heavy curtains for the south-west wall of the drawing room.

Keep some space in the north-east corner of the living room. Ensure that it remains clean and clutter-free.

Place television and air conditioner in the south-east or the Agni corner.

To generate positive energy and elevate the mood, display paintings depicting beauty of nature or scenery that adds tranquility to the room.

Never display artificial flowers as it is deemed inauspicious. Even dried flowers attract misfortune as they represent the autumn season.

Seat the guests in the north-west portion of the room. This quadrant of air and movement ensures that they do not overstay their welcome!

The head of the family should always occupy the south-west quadrant, facing either east or north.

Vastu for Bedroom

The Vastu plays a major role in placement and designing of the master bedroom. The way you sleep with your head in different direction and your placement of bed is a major decision which must be taken properly with utmost care.The south west corner of the bedroom is the best position to place the bed. This will increase the mental as well as physical productivity of the person and also increase the working spirit. The door opening of the bedroom should be in the north, east and north east direction of the room.

Some Important Points for Bedroom

The master bedroom should always be located in the Southwest part of the house as Southwest represents the element Earth which implies the heaviness, which makes it as the ideal place for the master of the house.

A great deal of attention should be paid to bedrooms in a house. One should sleep with head towards South, East or West and never in north.

There should not be any beam crossing over the bed. If it exists, proper rectification should be done immediately otherwise the health will be affected.

The heavy almirah should be on the South/west wall.

The construction material for the bed should be the wood and the wrought iron beds should be avoided.

All the electronic gadgets should be placed at a distance from the bed as the Electro- magnetic waves emitted by them interferes with the sleep.

There should not be any mirror in front of the bed.

The shape of the bed should be regular and any irregular shape should be avoided.

The bed should never be placed in front of the bedroom door.

The color scheme for the bedroom in Southwest direction should be in any earthy tone like browns, shades of almond, and all families of earthen color.

Vastu Tips for Bedroom

Avoid a round or oval-shaped bed.

Bed should always have a head rest. Never keep a window open behind your head when sleeping.

Avoid a round ceiling above the bed.

Never sleep under an overhead beam.

Refrain from hanging photographs of deceased ancestors on the wall.

Do not place the temple in the bedroom.

Remove all broken or chipped items.

Keep door of attached toilet shut when not in use.

Mop the floor at least once a week with sea salt added to the water as it removes negative energy.

Vastu for Main Door

According to Vastu, the main door enters Urja (energy) in the house through doors and windows. However, the front door of your home is where the major part of energy enters and therefore this door plays a vital role in determining the flow of vibrations experienced by the household. The entrance area should be neat and clean and avoid having a dustbin in the entrance. Your main door should open in a clockwise direction. Door opening in anti-clock direction causes a delay in work, slow progress and difference of opinion among the family members. The main door should not have cracks. The entrance door of the house should be larger than the other doors entering the house.

It is good to decorate the entrance of a house with pictures or statues of Lakshmi, Ganesha or auspicious signs such as OM or the Swastika. Inauspicious pictures should not be on the door. Doors should have thresholds preferably made in marble or wood. Display two pairs of auspicious Lakshmi steps on both the side of a threshold to invite laxmiji, a goddess of wealth.

Direction of Main Door

The main door should always be in the north, north-east, east, or west, as these directions are considered auspicious.

North: If you want to locate the entrance door in North wall of a home, then make sure the door is in North-East section of North wall.

The reason for this is to allow morning sun (UV Rays for purification), fresh light and air to enter the home from East. Also keep the door towards center of wall (not exactly at center) and locate a window near North-East corner.

South: If you want to locate entrance of a home in South wall, then locating the door towards South-East is auspicious; avoid having the door at center or South-West portion of wall. For all houses having main door in South direction, it’s must to have another door in North direction also.

East: To locate main entrance door in East wall, vastu suggests keeping it in North-East part.

West: North-West half of West wall is more suitable for main entrance as per vastu.

Vastu for Plot’s Shapes

Rectangular Plot: Rectangular plot is auspicious in the ratio of 1:2 and if the length is facing North and breadth is facing West then the inmates reap rich benefits from the plot in terms of health, wealth and prosperity.

Square Plot: Square plot having with equal length and width is always ideal plot for any type of construction. This type of plot bestows inmate’s all-round success and harmony.

Gau-Mukhi Plot: Gau-mukhi plot is one which is narrow from the front area and broad at the back. This type of plot is very auspicious for residential purpose and bestows good health, wealth and prosperity.

Sher-Mukhi Plot: Sher-mukhi plot contrary to gau-mukhi is just opposite broad from front and narrow at the back. This type of plot is not considered good option for residences but can be used for commercial construction.

Oval/Circular/Elliptical Plot: Oval/circular/elliptical plot are irregular shapes in plots which are not considered good for any purpose and people living on such type of plots never flourish.

Plots Having Four or More Sides: Such as hexagon, pentagon and octagon must be avoided for anyway as they tend to bring bad luck for inmates.

Plots having cut corner from either side are not considered good as they are not appropriate for construction both according to Vastu and science. Plots having a cut off from North-east corner are inauspicious to buy, thus avoid it. According to Vastu North-east is scared share of a site which should be kept clean & unobstructed and receives maximum morning sunlight therefore if this part is cut off or occupied by other than occupants have to suffer. Plots having extension towards South-east, North-west or South-west are not good for building as they receive harmful rays of sun leading to warming up the area.

Vastu Tips for Shape 

The shape should be such that there must be only four corners in a Plot.

Plot on “T” Junction should be avoided.

Extended Plots

Plots at dead end should be avoided.

The corners should have the angle of 90 degrees.

The ratio of Length: Breadth in a rectangular Plot should not exceed 1:2

The direction of East West should be 90 degrees. Slight deviation of 10-15 degrees is acceptable

Vastu for Main Door

The main door should always be in the north, north-east, east, or west, as these directions are considered auspicious. Avoid having the main door in the south, south-west, north-west (north side), or south-east (east side) directions.

The East and North facing plots are appropriate for house construction. Care should be taken while designing the house facing West and South direction because some directions have positive impacts while the other have negative on occupants of the house.

Entrance of a house predicts many a things about the occupants in the house in terms of nature and especially health. Having kitchen right in the entrance is a major flaw in the house and in such cases focus on food is very intense. Kitchen right in front of entrance either on left or right side is problematic for house mates and there is a probability of lethargy, frequent health and stomach problems is quite high. Vastu for Plot’s Direction and Place

The selection of a plot is very important since the plot represents a fixed form that will radiate positive as well as negative energies depending on its location, orientation, shape, and slope and soil quality. The most important factor before choosing a Plot is its direction. While you plan to purchase a plot, prefer North-facing direction as it is considered highly auspicious. East and west facing plots can also be considered, however, south facing land should be completely avoided.

Location of the plot: Avoid buying residential plots near cemetery or hospitals as they are storehouses of negative energies and infections. Any obstruction like bridge, electric pole, hill or a building in the north and east side should be avoided, as it blocks sunlight, however, anything in the west and south can be compromised as it impedes entry of negative energies.

Uniformity of the plot: A flat land should be preferred for residential construction. However, if there are slants then plots with north-east or south-west slopes should be considered as they are extremely propitious.

Westward slopes should be avoided as they lead to health problems and incongruity among family members. One should also watch out for a valley around the plot or depression on the land as they are believed to be inauspicious. Besides, avoid purchasing the plot that is situated between two large plots as it symbolizes poverty.

Right Colors as per Vastu

The right combination of colors helps achieve the desired effect. According to Vastu experts, neutral or pastel shades with a tinge of darker hues work well for a bedroom. While use of bold and bright color tones prove to be energetic and could work against the objective of creating a calm setting. White and light blue is good for the east direction. If the entrance of your house is towards north, the best Vastu colors for the north direction would be green and all its shades.

Meaning of Colors

Red: Red is a bold color. It represents lust, passion, materialism, base energies, bravery, power, drama, emotions, action, passion, aggressiveness, warmth, energy and vibrancy.

Its nature is active and stimulating (that’s why you can see more of red in some restaurants as it stimulates hunger). People suffering from depression or who’re nervous should avoid red color as it can be very stressful.

Blue: Sky and water are represented by this color. Blue also signifies beauty, tranquility, contentment, emotions, inspiration, devotion, truth and mercy. It’s a color that helps healing and reduces pain.

Avoid having too much blue in the house as it’ll lead to cough, cold and similar medical issues.

Green: Growth, nature, relaxation, healing, fertility, abundance, prosperity, positive energy, rebirth, re-creation etc. are the attributes represented by green color.

Another important quality of green color is that it helps to calm down temper and helps soothe the mood.

White: White color signifies purity, cleanliness, openness, innocence, simplicity and luxury. Since it also represents privacy and intimacy, you should not paint the whole house white, else you may become egocentric.

Yellow: Yellow represents happiness, purity, positive thoughts, optimism, openness, illumination, intelligence, study, stable mind, wealth and concentration.

Hence, people having behavioral issues can use more of yellow color.

Orange: Orange color characterizes pride, determination, goals, communication, good health, vivacity, warmth, action, energy, comfort and ease. It’s a color that can be used by people who feel depressed with life.

Also, young aspirants who’re willing to put in determined efforts to achieve goals in their life should use more of orange color.

Brown: Brown represents satisfaction, contentment, comfort, stability and earth element. It’s a masculine color and can be used by anyone who wants to feel happy and satisfied in his life.

Purple: Purple is the color of luxury, riches, graciousness, self-respect and poise. It can be used by people who’re suffering from inferiority complex (especially males).

Violet: It represents spirituality, contentment, satisfaction, memory, concentration, peace of mind and decisive nature. It’s a very good color to be used moderately in kid’s bedroom, pooja room, study room and the rooms of people whose work requires constant mental activity.

Pastels: All the pastel colors are considered best in Vastu. In-fact as per Vastu shastra, we should be using very light colors for walls and ceiling of our home.

Neutral: Neutral colors are also considered very good in Vastu and are recommended for houses and other buildings.
